Congratulations! You have passed your driving test, you have the freedom to drive unaccompanied, giving you better mobility, increased job prospects and the satisfaction of knowing you have gained an important life skill. What's next?
To drive legally, you must have motor insurance. As a newly qualified driver, you may find that insurance premiums for even older or low performance cars could be well over your budget. The fact is that the high motor insurance premiums for new drivers reflects the much higher risk they represent behind the wheel of a car.
Traffic accidents are the largest cause of death in young adults. A survey carried out by ORC International for the DSA found that of those who had completed the pass plus course; 93% felt more confident out on the road and 89% felt that their driving skills had improved further.
The pass plus course is a six module course designed by the DSA with the aim of increasing driver skill, awareness, safety and confidence. It is proven to reduce your chances of having a road accident, so much so that most insurance companies offer substantial discounts to new drivers who complete the pass plus course. There is no test to take, instead you will be assessed throughout your course by your Driving North instructor. Once completed you will be issued with a certificate from the DSA which proves to your insurance company you have passed the course.
